Quarter 3, Week 6

Good evening parents,

I apologize for my hiatus from this blog.

Since they are learning about form in art, kindergartners are beginning a project based on Paul Cezanne's Apples and Oranges in which they're portraying apples in a bowl and using shading to make their apples look 3D (as Cezanne does in his still life paintings).  They're using oil pastels, which they have been introduced to before, but this time they are learning to use multiple colors and blend them into each other.  They are advancing so well and are excited to be finding new uses for this medium!

First graders have been learning about the artistic concept of space.  They are finishing up their projects based on Henri Matisse's Lemons on a Pewter Plate, and their finished masterpieces are looking stunning!  As they finish, they will begin a new project, this time focusing on Matisse's Seaweed.  This project won't be as faithful to the original as the Lemons one, because in demonstrating artistic space, we will be having our seaweed cutouts overlap each other instead of being spread out.  It will nevertheless make a beautiful, ocean-inspired scene.

Have a great Presidents' Day Weekend, and I look forward to updating you next week!
