Quarter 3, Week 9

Good afternoon parents,

Another quarter over at Archway Trivium East.  Kindergartners and first graders have worked so hard over the past nine weeks, and they are ready for their well-deserved break!

Kindergartners have finished their apple projects based on Paul Cezanne's Apples and Oranges, and I am very pleased with how they have turned out.  They put their knowledge and skills to the test with this project, using novel techniques and materials, and the results are beautiful.  During the next quarter, we will be moving on from the artistic element of form to the element of color.  We will be looking at Claude Monet as our artist of focus and keeping an eye on his use of color, ending in an age-appropriate replica of one of his Waterlily masterpieces.

First graders completed their ocean scene projects based on Henri Matisse's Seaweed, and I love the way they look.  They really did a nice job making the projects so colorful; even though many a marker ran out of ink, the students generously shared their resources so that everybody had the materials they needed.  Well done!  Next quarter, first graders will be taking a look at color and delving deeper into the subject from their kindergarten year.  Like the Kinder students, first graders will be using Claude Monet's work as an example for their upcoming projects.

I'm so excited to begin this next phase in your children's art development!  They are doing so well and working so hard.  They should be very proud of themselves and all the effort they've put forth.  I hope you all have a wonderful Spring Break, and I look forward to leading our students along the homeward stretch towards the completion of this school year.
