Week 12

Good afternoon parents,

Our students have once again spent the week deepening their knowledge and love for art.  I am truly pleased with how well they have developed their skills and understanding of new concepts this week!

Kindergartners are developing their understanding of value and are improving their ability to distinguish and produce the different variants of gray, from white to black.  They are very close to completing their polar bear projects, which they have been producing using white oil pastels on black construction paper.  I am very proud of each of their efforts and the sense of wonder which they bring to the classroom daily.

First graders are continuing to work on their lizard/chameleon projects in their quest to learn about texture.  They have been using crayon rubbings on the backs of their chairs to texture the skin of the lizards they have been drawing.  They have so much fun getting to do this, and it's wonderful to watch their enthusiasm!  Eventually, their animals will be cut out and glued to a master piece of construction paper, mimicking the style of children's author and artist Eric Carle.

It has been a delight to watch our students' wonder and knowledge grow this week.  I am so proud of all their hard work, and I believe you too will commend their heroic efforts as they continue to grow in skill and wisdom.
