Week 7

Good evening, parents, and happy First Day of  Fall!

I am very proud of all your students have accomplished this week.  They have each worked so hard and advanced so rapidly; I'm sure you will be impressed by how much they have accomplished.

Kindergartners, after finishing their construction paper house projects, are being introduced to natural, as opposed to geometric, shapes.  This next week, they will learn that natural, or irregular, shapes are found much more often in Nature than geometric shapes.  After practicing drawing natural shapes (which some of them started this week), they will start tracing shapes of seaweed, using stencils.  These tracings will later be used to create age-appropriate replicas of Henri Matisse's Seaweed.

First graders have mostly finished their Mother and Child watercolor paintings.  They have spent this week learning how to create different gradients, line widths, and mixed colors during their project.  They have even learned how to blend different parts of their paintings together to create softer, less defined borders.  Next week, they will be working on their own versions of Picasso's Chien, which, in English, means Dog.  They will create their own version of this line drawing and decorate a frame to compliment it.

Great job to all our Kindergartners and First Graders this week!  They have all shown such sense of wonder and depth of inquiry; I am looking forward to another exciting week of discovery!
