Week 6

Good evening, parents!

Another fantastic week full of learning has passed here at Archway Trivium East.

Kindergartners have all but finished their construction paper projects.  They have been spending a lot of time and effort cutting and gluing their shapes, and it has really paid off!  Their fine motor skills, stamina, and strength are rapidly developing and are already so much better than they were at the start of the year!  Next week, we will be putting the finishing touches on our construction paper project and move to a new topic: natural shapes.  Up till now, we have only been discussing geometric shapes (circles, triangles, squares, etc.); kindergartners will soon learn that shapes don't always have to be regular and are, in fact, very irregular in Nature.  The kindergartners will also begin learning a new skill: tracing natural shapes using card stock stencils.  This skill will be put to use in their next project.

First graders have begun tracing a replica of Picasso's Mother and Child (1922) onto tracing paper, using their pencils.  As they finish, I copy their tracings onto watercolor paper.  The first graders then fill their line drawings with watercolors.  They have been working so diligently and are eager to finish their beautiful work.  Our students have also been extremely resourceful, mixing multiple colors to create the ones they need when running low.  Their painting skills are rapidly improving, and they are learning how to create different saturation levels and line thicknesses with their brush strokes.  Kudos to all of them for their focus and dedication!

Looking forward to another great week of fun artistic learning!  Have a wonderful weekend!
