Week 3

Good evening, parents!  It was great to get to see some of you at K-2 Curriculum Night this past Tuesday.  I hope my short presentation was able to give you a general but helpful overview of the K-1 Art curricula this year.

Kindergartners have spent this past week honing their scissor skills, practicing cutting smaller and more complicated shapes out of paper.  I believe they're now ready to put those skills to the test, cutting out shapes from colored construction paper, which will later be glued to a master paper, creating a pretty scene.  This will be their first big project of the year...so exciting!

First graders are also working on their first big project for this year.  They are creating an age-appropriate replica of Henri Matisse's The Swan.  This week, they started to create the line drawing using pencils and will later trace their pencil work in watercolor paint.  The first graders have now all used watercolor paint in class and practiced how to do so responsibly.  It will be exciting to see how they use their new skills to replicate such a beautiful work of art!

Have a great and safe weekend!
