Week 2

Good afternoon!

Kindergartners and First Graders have been establishing and developing their artistic skills rapidly and enthusiastically this week!

Kindergartners now have a solid understanding of the basic geometric shapes and are noticing those shapes in art, as well as in the real world.  They also have begun to use scissors safely and appropriately and have practiced cutting paper along lines to create geometric shapes.  This skill will prepare them for their first major project this year.

First graders have been exploring different types of lines (straight, wavy, scalloped, zigzag, and spiral) and noticing how these different line types are found in the real world.  They have begun to observe what thoughts and emotions different types of lines convey and how they are used in art, particularly in line drawings.  In the coming weeks, First Graders will be using their knowledge of line use to create their own line drawing, based on Pablo Picasso's Mother and Child.
